Art

A while ago, I heard someone say that they didn’t like non-rhyming poetry. Actually, I might’ve misheard them, so…in that case this blog post isn’t really refuting them as much as it is developing my own ideas on what poetry is. I’m not offended by that comment (though I only write non-rhyming poetry). I would be perfectly fine with it if it changed to “I don’t like writing non-rhyming poetry.” I personally don’t like writing rhyming poetry, so there. But whether or not it rhymes, poetry is an art, so there must besomethingout there that you would enjoy. For instance, if your spouse wrote you a poem that didn’t rhyme, would you brush it aside with the excuse, “I don’t really enjoy reading such things”? The whole point of art is it’s universality. No one can say that they don’t like art, because eventually they WILL find art that they like.

Although this is music, and almost completely unrelated to the topic at hand, some of Chopin’s mazurkas are a sort of ‘non-rhyming poetry’. He gives sorts of twists on pieces that surprise the listener, sometimes offending the ear. Yet he has been named the ‘poet of the piano’ (funny how that works :)). Have you ever realized that with many types of art, the entire idea is to offend, shock, and ultimately keep the viewer entertained and enraptured?

As well as that, art directed towards you, however bad it may be, can be determined painfully gorgeous. If someone puts their heart into something and you can SEE that, then you can’t ignore the beauty. You want to fill yourself up with it all day, just because of a single poorly-worded, badly-rhymed phrase-but you know the meaning. You know what goes on behind the scenes. And you love it because of that.

Oh, forgot one tiny detail. This is very directly focused on the statement that person made: CAN YOU NOT APPRECIATE THE PSALMS? They didn’t even rhyme in Hebrew. Once again, I’m not offended; I just think that comment was a little ridiculous.

To close up, a poem(doesn’t rhyme, sorry), quite obviously directed towards one specific person, who will find it gorgons, but the rest of you can dislike it as much as you want, as long as you don’t completely undermine the genre (haha, wow this poem is cheesy…maybe you won’t find it gorgons).

I miss you

My heart aches for you

But because of that

It’s too easy to ignore

I want you to know

I’m sorry

Even with God,

I sometimes fail

As a person, as a friend

I love you, though,

And just so you know,

I love you

Equally and eternally

Forgive me my failures

When I can’t help

When I make things worse

I’ve woken up thinking of you

Don’t let me ignore you

Because I’m going to miss you more

Very, very soon

God help me

What will I become without you?

You have made up so much of my life

And I never want to let you go

Art

Jazz, baroque, classic, blues
Oils, collages, paints, pens
Come in 3/4, cut. 4/2’s
Perhaps a rouge, teal, or blend

Beauty is beauty no matter who sees it
But to who sees it, beauty may vary
Does it fly? May it sing? Can it bounce, jump, or flit?
Regardless of these, “beauty dost always beauty carry”

The Apt Expression of Music

Something I truly believe: music expresses thought more fluidly and extremely more purely than any other art-writing, painting, well, maybe not dancing. But the beautiful way different instruments can play off of each other, and different voice ranges can complement, and the utter complexity of musical notes, are all things about music that cannot be mimicked by anything else. Nothing else can capture the same quality of thought. Not even words. Or maybe I’m different. Maybe I’m the only one whose thoughts can be played by a piano.

Music can also enhance thoughts, as well as express them. Whenever I play a five-page piano piece, I find myself lost in thought. Normally, it shows me the selfish natures deep inside my nature that are usually swathed in layers and layers of fraud. My thoughts usually go something like this:

“If only so and so could see me play piano like this. They would worship me. They would think I was the bomb.com. Because I am.”

As you can see, it sometimes brings out the worst of me. But the two hardest things to interpret in this world are music and thoughts. Grouped together in an amazing, awe-inspiring category. There are a few pieces I have played that have really taught me many things. Like the beauty of chaos. Wow. When my fingers learn something, my mind nimbly follows.

And who is a student to boast in his lessons? Goodness. What an idiot I can be. And that brings me to another topic that I will not share today. Oh no…not yet.

So, can piano be named as my teacher and my tempter? It enables me to tap into my deeper thoughts, the deepest of them all, buried under lies which are all pure shadows, and shallow ones at that, but at the same time it gives me freedom to enlarge the area of my heart that focuses on me and my greatness and how amazing I am. But I love the piano. And I would never quit it to learn the violin, no matter how amazing the violin is. And even though sometimes I feel kinda boring because I play the instrument that everyone plays, the easiest instrument, I still wouldn’t trade it for the world.

But I’d trade the world for that stupid piano to get tuned! (note-when I say piano, I refer not to the one sitting next to both a heater and a door, the two things it should not be next to, but as a general term referring to the instrument) When I play that darn thing, I think that someone is humming along because of the buzzing. It drives me crazy!

Well, that got kinda off subject. But you get the idea. This crazy author likes the piano, blah, blah, blah…:)

Thank you for reading, if you did. Just know that there was a really deep theme to this. Not really. Just my own personal beliefs on the human mind and its musical thoughts.
